What AI Gets Right
and What It Gets Wrong

Know what to trust before you start

AI is a powerful tool for brainstorming and concept development, but it has limitations when it comes to the specifics of custom manufacturing. Here’s a quick overview of where AI can be helpful, and where it often falls short.

AI is reliable for…

  • Helping you describe and articulate your design concept in words
  • Exploring different styles, layouts, and design directions
  • Drafting a project description to send to us as a starting point
  • Answering process and product questions when given our instructions file
  • Generating useful B&W reference imagery when prompted correctly
  • Explaining what a vector file is and why it matters for manufacturing

AI commonly gets wrong…

  • File specs — claiming a high-res PNG or “vector-style” image is a suitable production file
  • File creation — claiming it can output usable vector files (current AI tools cannot)
  • Capabilities — suggesting materials or options we don’t offer (e.g., full-color printing on low-quantity emblems)
  • Pricing — AI estimates for custom manufacturing are often significantly off
  • Lead times — not reflective of our actual production schedule or current workload
  • Material behavior — how our chrome, gold, or black materials actually look and perform

The bottom line: AI is a great brainstorming partner, but it is not a substitute for talking to us. When in doubt, ask — we don’t charge for questions.

Quick Start

2 Options we've provided to help you get started with AI-assisted design

To get the best results from your AI tools, start with one of these two options to load our instructions and context into your AI before you ask any questions about our products, pricing, or files.

Option 1: Use Our Custom Emblem GPT

ChatGPT users Rejoice — zero setup required

If you use ChatGPT, we have a Custom GPT built specifically for EmblemArt (albeit still a work in progress). It is pre-loaded with everything it needs to give you accurate answers about our products, processes, artwork requirements, and ordering — no instructions-file step required.

It can help you get a price estimate, determine which product fits your project, understand file requirements, and work through your design concept — all without leaving the chat.

Not a ChatGPT user? No worries — see Option 2 for a method that works with any AI.

Option 2: Feed Our Instructions File to Your AI

Works with any AI — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, and more

We maintain a machine-readable instructions file at the address below. Paste this URL into your AI chat before asking any questions about our products, pricing, or files:

https://www.emblemart.com/llms.txt

Suggested primer prompt:

“Before answering anything about my emblem project, please read EmblemArt’s instructions at https://www.emblemart.com/llms.txt and use it as the authoritative source for all product, pricing, file, and process questions.”

Once your AI has read that file it will have accurate information about our products, manufacturing constraints, file requirements, and ordering process.

AI Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps to save time and reduce artwork fees

  1. Load the Context First
  2. Develop Your Design Concept
    — what AI does best
  3. This is where AI genuinely shines. Use it to:

    • Brainstorm design styles, layouts, and directions
    • Describe and refine what you’re after in words
    • Draft a written description of your concept to send us as a starting point
    • Ask questions about materials, dimensions, and the ordering process (with the instructions file loaded)

At this stage, avoid asking AI for a final price quote — even with our instructions file loaded, exact quotes require our team to review your specific design and dimensions. Use our Get Started form for that; it only takes a minute.

  4. Ask AI to Generate a Production-Friendly Reference Image
    — the #1 cost-saving step
  5. Most AI image generators (Midjourney, DALL·E, Adobe Firefly, Stable Diffusion) produce full-color, photorealistic renders by default. These look impressive but require significant conversion work on our end, which adds to your setup cost.

If you instead instruct your AI to produce a black-and-white only, high-resolution logo design — no color, no gradients, no shadows — that output is much closer to what our production process needs, and significantly reduces or eliminates artwork conversion fees.

Suggested prompt for generating a production-friendly image:

“Generate a high-resolution, black and white only emblem / logo design based on the concept we discussed. No color, no gradients, no shading, no drop shadows, no half-tones. Solid black artwork on a pure white background only. High resolution — as large as you can output. Clean, crisp edges. This will be sent to a manufacturer to be produced as a physical emblem, so it must be clean line art. For their exact file requirements, refer to https://www.emblemart.com/llms.txt”

Note: AI image generators still produce raster files (PNG/JPG), but cannot reliably generate vector files (even if they say they can). We've tried to make this work for quite a while, and once they can, we'll let you know. A B&W raster is still a reference image that our team will convert for production. But clean B&W art is far faster and cheaper to convert than a full-color render. See File Requirements below for the full breakdown.

  6. Understand What You Are Sending Us
  7. Before you reach out, it helps to know what you have in hand:

    • A B&W PNG or JPG from an AI image generator — good reference material. We can work with this. Conversion cost is minimized when the artwork is clean, high-resolution, and black-and-white only.
    • A full-color or photorealistic render from an AI generator — useful as a concept reference, but it requires more conversion work, which adds to your setup cost.
    • No artwork yet — completely fine. Describe your concept in words on the Get Started form, or ask us — we also offer design-from-scratch services.

See the File Requirements section below for a full visual breakdown.

  8. Submit Your Project
    — and get a real quote
  9. When you’re ready, use our Get Started form. It takes about two minutes to fill out. Include:

    • Dimensions — the overall height and width you want for the finished emblem
    • Quantity — how many you need (this determines which materials and production methods are available to you)
    • Your artwork — attach your B&W PNG, any reference images, or a description of your concept
    • Notes from your AI session (optional but helpful) — if your AI produced a written description of your concept, paste it into the message field

We respond within one business day with a material recommendation and a preliminary quote based on your specifics.

File Requirements at a Glance

What AI typically generates vs. what we actually need

What AI Image Tools Produce

Midjourney, DALL·E, Firefly, Stable Diffusion…

  • Full-color PNG or JPG raster images
  • Photorealistic renders with depth and shading
  • Beautiful concept art — but not production files

Verdict: Useful as a visual reference. We can convert it, but there is a cost.

The Sweet Spot (B&W Raster)

What you get when you prompt AI correctly

  • Black and white only — no color, no gradients
  • High-resolution, clean line art
  • Think: a rubber-stamp logo printed on white paper

Verdict: Excellent reference. Minimal conversion work = lower cost to you.

What We Actually Need

For direct production with no conversion fee

  • Vector file: .svg, .ai, .eps, or print-quality .pdf
  • For lettering: a font file (.ttf or .otf)
  • 2D artwork — no 3D effects, depth, or gradients

Verdict: Ideal. Goes straight to production setup with no conversion step.

Don’t have a vector file? Not a problem — we offer artwork conversion services. Sending a clean B&W PNG from your AI keeps that conversion fast and affordable. For a deeper dive on file types, see our Vector Files and Suitable Design Files entries in the Knowledge Base.
